Regiment: 2nd Michigan Cavalry Battles Mentioned: Historical Figures: Camp Anderson Nov 3d 1861 Dear Father I received your letter last night [     ?     ] 22nd it has been a long time on the way I should think, it was opened by the same person that opened the other one. we are all well yet there has not one of us been sick yet only hank & I got hurt by the horses the other day there is a number in the hospital sick with the measles besides a number that have been hurt by the horses. we have got our clothes through out now Col Kellogg told yesterday we should leave this week as soon as we got our pay but I do not think we shall go quite so soon I just went out and drew our rations for four of us which was one loaf of bread & a small lump of butter we got in to our tents last night I like the tents better than I do the barracks we shall send our cloth home to morrow or next day, I think Dave, Hank, Ira, and myself camps together. Chan, Fran, Lewis Mclane from Burlington camps together this after noon we went down north from camp 2 miles to visit a house which is haunted it is a very large white house with four large pillars in front a good many of the were broken out we went all through the house from top to bottom there is a hole in one corner of the sellar dug in to the wall some says it is where the man was put which was murdered then. there is two large sellars under it in one there is a large holes in the ground which is full of water the top of the hole is square with a box set over it it is a new house not quite finished & ther is shavings in one room the well is a nice one bricked up instead of stone but no water in it the barn is fastly done it is a nice place But I don’t think it is haunted there was a man there that offered any one of us five dollars if we would sleep there one night we sleep good & warm nights that is all I can say I think we shall get along pretty well I wrote home last week thought likely you had got home I cant tell for certain whether we will come through this week or not we are going St. Louis Missouri dont write untill you hear from me again Good bye Your Son Charles H.
