Dear. Father & Mother.
I received your
letter this evening dated the 29
th
With Several others from homer.
it has been over one month
since I have heard from home
I do not believe the letters come
through all right. I know I have
written two letters to one that I
have received. evry time I get a
letter they want to know why I
dont write oftener, the reason we
have not written of lately is because
we have been on the move
nearly all the while. we have been
down in the state of Tennessee &
back again into Kentucky. I dont
know as there is any news for
me to write this time for I told
you all of the news in my last
letter which you have got by
this time I onley mailed it the
third of this month & I think
that I told you all the news
about our last fight with Old
John Morgan. we came in contact
with him first on Christmass eve the
next was the day after Christmass.
his force was so much larger than
our little Battallion of about 200
men counting in evry man team-
sters & all, you better believe we
just saved ourselves and that was
all if it had been in day light they
would taken every one of us prisnors.
as sure as the world our company
only lost one man killed & three
were taken prisnors. Alex Darrow
was taken but he got away again
with two bulletts holes through his
coat. Lewis Waterman & Chancey H.,
were taken on the 26
th Chancey left
here for home about a week ago. he
is in Louisville or at hom by this
time I expect. Lew started this
afternoon for home he is agoing
to go without reporting at Louis-
ville they are afraid they will be
sent to some camp if they do.
there is three others with him
sent two likenesses home by
him I hope he will get through all
right. you must keep track of the
money that I send home I am afraid
we are all agoing to come out rather
slim next pay our clothing account
will be taken out of our wages and
some of the boys are in debt over two
months of their pay but I don’t
think I am in quite so deep, I
know they wont get the boys stuck
so another year they wont draw
clothing evry time they bring it
arround. if you are agoing to
send a box to me you may send
it at this place but I don’t think
they had better put any thing in that
will spoil for it may be a long
time before I get it. I would like
a pair of Glove one or two pair of
socks & I want a good bunch of
paper & envelopes small sheet note
paper get the best king that is
the hardest thing to get out here.
and what other things you see fit to
send. the 25
th Regt is here I have
seen all of the boys Charly Burt
is tough of a buck. he sends his
his best respects to all. give my love
to all who may enguire.
write. soon, Your Son, C.H. Potter
