General
In answer to your telegraph of
April 14
th I have the honor to state, that
the Commanding Officer of the 2 Mich is being
applied to for information concerning
Robert
Charles Potter Co F of that Regt, returned for
answer that there was no man of that name
in his command. One of the blacks employed
at the Hd Qrs states that he recollects a man
of that name but of Co M. who was supposed
to have been killed at Dandridge. Afterwards however
it was reported that he as wounded in the
hands of the enemy. A commission arrived for
him from the Governor of Michigan soon after
but the man has not been heard from since
Major Dickinson the Commanding Officer of the Regt
has been written to on this subject but has
not replied – I will communicate any
information I may be able to able to procure as soon
as rec’d
