Regiment: 7th Michigan Infantry Battles Mentioned: Historical Figures: Chestnut hill hospital Philadelphia Pa July the 4 1864 Dear wife inow sit down to wright a few lines to you to let you know that iam as well as comon at present and to let you know that ireceived your letter of the 26 this morning and was glad to hear that you are all well isuppose your have herd from me before now by Mr Corwin he left here a week ago to day and thought he would get home in three days this is alonsom fourth to me although igot apass to go out to day and then igot your letter and paper and aletter from washin gton and so isold my pass for 50 cents and went to the sutlers and bought me agood dinner we mustered for pay the last day of June and iexpect to get payed off soon and when ido iwill send you some money thare was a good many go tight last night and the gard house was full of them but they dont feel so nice this morning thare was aman went out today and went into amany cherry tree to get cherrys and the man came out with his gun and shot him through the nexk so that he died before night and the man has run away but he wont get far ihave applyed for a furlough but it is verry uncertain whether ican get it or not for thare is another examin ation this week and ishal be as likely to be sent to the front as any whare but if ishould not be sent this time ithink ican come home before they will examine again but icant tell any thing about it now and ishal have to to close my letter for ihave got to go to work so no more at present from your affectionate husband George Phelps
