Chestnut hill hospital July the 23 1864
Dear wife inow sit down to rite afew
lines to you to let you know that
iam well at present and to let you
know that ireceived a letter from you
this morning and was glad to hear that
you ware all well and was verry thankful
for the stamp you sent to me for if you
had not sent them ishould had to have
waited till some other time to wrote
to you for ihad neither money nor stamp
nor idont know how soon ishall have
but I hope it will not be long for ineed
some verry bad and isuppose that you
need it more than ido so ishal get it
as quick as possible and send it to you ihave
been transferred to another ward but
my mail will come the same as usual
and iexpect every day to be dtailed and sent
from here but idnt know whare but it
wont be to the front iam on duty now

week for the second time since icame
to the hospital and once before ihave
rote as many as seven or eight letters that
inever got any answer from but idont
mind it for when ihave time ilike
to rite but iesteem a letter from one
of my old michigan friends agreat
blessing you will see by the heading
of this letter that ihad to call on my
Chistian friends for paper and
envelope it is now time to go to bible
class so imust say good by for this time
