Bro John
Your letter of the
1th came to hand this day noon it
found me in health and in the
best of Spirits. as is the case of the
Soldiers. after such victories as
our Army has been gaining for
the past few day’s. the Majority of
the Regt. thinks we shall see our
own State (Mich.) in a few month,
our Major, went so far as to offer
to bet $9 00 that we would get into
Michigan within one Month,
We are here doing Provost duty.
that is taken care of Prisoners, almost
every day ther is a detail made to go
to Louisville with them, we shall
without eny doubt in my mind
stay here untill our time is out
unless something new turns up for
some Regt. has got to do this duty
and as our Col is Provost Marshal
of Tennessee, the thing rest in his
own hands, and it was his doings
of getting us here. he thinks that his
old Regt. is a good as eny if he has
not Commanded it for two years,
he still is Col. Parkhearst. is
his name. Wilkington is the
Lt. Col. Com
[ ? ] name, my
Captain is from Marshall, a
[ ? ] by trade. Caris his
name, Leut. Press. Brand is the
only Luterant with us, the 2
nd
Lieut being in detached service.
F
[ ? ] Orderly Lee has surrended
up his Army. I am looking eny day
for Johnson surrender, and think
I shall see ere long, I was not in
Richmond as you thought possible
I might be a but, by here, I would
like to have been. I would give
[ ? ]
though bo he with Sherman, he
is the man, for me, but, one old
Pappa Thomas as the boys calles’
his is next to him, dont you think
so? We hav a good place here, but
it is mighty lazy buisness, when
we have to stand guard is mostly under
[ ? ] so we are not used much,
but it is hard work for me to do
nothing. I thought I was lazy enough
but time flys fast so I can stand it,
I received a letter from home our folks
be all well, Minnie was ther at
that time she worte me a note
and I answer it in
[ ? ]
she said I might so
[ ? ] good
me, I should think Knoxville
would be a great place for ya but
I do not know
[ ? ] about it
I will
[ ? ] of some one that
is acquainted with it and not
you all I can find out but
Probly
[ ? ] knows more
abut it thars I can learn Nashville
is a
[ ? ] place, but it went a
cass, to live in it. it is agoing
[ ? ], is not
[ ? ] safe to
be out after dark, so!
[ ? ] has
guards all time of night
[ ? ]
it wall for so
[ ? ] there I know
well, I am not in a
[ ? ] to
day, so will stop by betting I
will be home first. I will bet
