Dear Sister
Your kind letters came to hand last night. If found me enjoy-
ing tolerably good health. tho’ not as good as I could desire as I
have a deep cold and very sore throat which you know is not very
agreeable. at home and it is a great deal worse so here. We are all
in good health, and taking everything easy. We have been ma-
rching around a right smart in the last two weeks, and it has not
amounted to anything. We left Camp Craig two weeks ago.
Yesterday for Centreville. We marched
eighteen miles on Monday through mud and rain which made it
very dyssagreeable. We camped five miles this side of Centreville.
with the expectation of moving forward on Tuesday morning but –
after we had gone into camp news came that Centreville was
evacuated by the rebels, as also was Manapsas The news was
gladly received by some whilst it was not by others. Tho
Manapsas was generally alreadeed by the soldiers of the army
of the Potomac. We stayed at camp Fairfax from Monday until
Saturday then we was ordered to Alexandria it was supposed to
embark for some other clime
But it proved to be rather a bore after we got with him within
about a mile and half of town. It appeard that Gen Gutter had
not been ordered there by the commanders of the division On
Sunday, we was ordered back to camp Craig at which place we
stayed till Wednesday. Then we received another order to
proceed to Alexandria again but for what purpose we can not ell
but it is generally supposed that we are to go to some southren
part. But when we will embark is unknown to us perhaps
tomorrow and perhaps not for two weeks I will bring my letter to
a close write soon and direct as before
Yours truly T H Parker
