Mr Glasfire
Dear Sir
Your kind and welcome letter bearing date of the 9
th was received
this morning and I asure you it was a welcome visetter for I
began to think that you had all forgot mee down here in Dixey
But I see that I have some friends left yet in Michigan I was
glad to hear that you War all well and enjoying as good health as
you are I am happy to inform you this leaves mee well att
present and in good spirits good health and good health is a
blessing to a soldier and thare is nothing that keeps uup a
soldiers spirits as to recieve incorigin letters from his friends
at home Oh how I wish that I could see you all again for a
short time to have a good John it is nearly one year have pased
away into eternity and oh the 22
nd Regiment has lost some good
Boys Our company have lost 13 men and our Captain by the hand
of death My company now numbers 80 men in all and
[ ? ] Officers
and there is only one company in the Regt that has got more men
than owers have But one Regiment was never in better health
since we left Pontiac than the are at the present time I was
glad to hear that Hannah had received the things that I sent her
Shee wanted to know how much money I let George Owens have to
buy a stone for chares safer Five Dollars was what I paid and
you said Sarah Safer had paid Hannah five dollars That was all
right you tell hannah that I want her to have little Abbys
likeness taken and sent to me and I shall look for it until it
comes If she cannot get it taken on Saterday She must go down
some other day When the are not so busey and make them take it
The weather is very hot hear at present It makes the sweat run
off me a stream But I hope by help of God We shall not have
to stay heare another sumer I trust this unholy War will bee
Brought to a close and every traiter bee made to lay down his
arms and renew his aligance to the Old Flag that our Forefathers
So Dearly earned and the Stars and Stripes Bee made to float all
over this country in triumph and in Defiance to the traitors that
has sought to Destory it and this bee One Country and One
undivided people one Flag and one nation and I firmly believe
concerning the drafting in Michigan But I hope the will draft
and show some people The law can be infoursed in defiance of
Coperheads and if the make aney Resistance thar can bee a few of
the Old Vetterains Regiments sent home to infourse it and I gess
the would not like aney Better fun than to make them Submit to
the Laws and Constitution of our state let them come and share
the lot of Soldier in the Broiling Sun of the South The would
not think it was such a nice thing to bee a soldier if the was in
the Rebble lines They would have Benn prest into the Servis long
ago Williaam hadkinson is well and so is George well and all
the boys that you know and sends thare best to you all Give
my best wishes to Purdy and Amasigah and to your wife and Except
