Regiment: 1st Michigan Light Artillery Battles Mentioned: Historical Figures: William T. Sherman Hd Qrs Battery 7 1st Mich Lt Arty Senoir Institute NC March 27th 1865 My Dear Hattie Man proposes but Genl Sherman disposes of this army according to his own ideas of military tactics. When I last wrote you at Goldsboro we expected to have marched the next day to the assistance of Sherman; but lo and behold the army halted and threw up fortifications on the 2 day then after (the (24th) the General himself and staff arrived and reciceved our Corps and on the 25th the whole army came in and went into camp. The 25th we marched at 6 am on the road leading back to Princteon and on the 26th arrived at this place and went into camp having sent Lt. Hawley about three miles to the right with our Section The 23rd A S is now guarding the Rail Road until supplies are shipped to feed and cloth the whole army and prepare it for another campaign. It will undoubtedly be some two weeks at best err we commence another campaign. We seldom get any papers or news from any source except from letters from our friends and they come but seldom. Have had no mail since the 19th the day we left Princeton but are daily expecting one. I have just returned from a ride to where Lt. Hawley is encamped and as it is late and I have nothing of importance to write besides dare not write but little by candle light will bid you good night (wich I could kiss you too) and close this brief and hasty note with love of Byron PS Will write you again in a day or so if I get a letter from you and shall probably write if I don’t get one.
