Friend
it has been a long time
since I have wrote a letter and a
long time since I have had one
I received one from you about one
month ago and this is the first
chance that I have had to answer it
as we have been on the march for
over fifty days and in that time
we have had a great deal of hard
fighting to do our Co has lost prety
heavy but onley four killed and one
wounded and fourteen taken Prisoners
I was dismounted on the last raid
and walked one day before geting inside
of our lines and then I went to the
Hospital and was detailed to
work in the Commisary department
and I am here yet and to day is the
fourth of july and it is a cool
nice day to fight but they are not
at it yet we are so near the front
that we can hear all that is going on
and we have been expecting a big fight
to day one year ago to day I was
over in Meriland between Getysburg and
Montaray where we captured the reb
wagon train and two years ago to day
I guess that you can tell where I was
and save me the trouble but I wold
like to be there to day just for a
chang the Cavlry Corps Hospital is on
the apamotox River one mile above city
point Mat is at Washington or was
the last that I heard of him
I havnt heard from fred in a long
time the last I heard he was well
I havnt heard nor seen John Wisner
since we left Stevensburg last Spring
I heard that Capt Birge has been
promoted to major
George Dean is a prisoner
we have about seven hundred sick and
wounded men in the Hospital now
well I cant think of any more to
write at present
