Regiment: 5th Michigan Infantry Battles Mentioned: Historical Figures: Camp Bullock March 27th 64 Dear Wife I must tell you that I have got back to my Regiment I came back yesterday feel pretty smart but not able to do very hard duty but shall be in a few days, I had not been in camp not more than one hour before who should come in but Thomas and Watson dident we have a sociable old visit talking about home and the first that we knew it was most twelve oclock little did I think that the next time that I saw Thomas that we would be in Virginia but I may see more from Iosco yet I found George Elliott George Disbrow and Smith in good health and spirits Well Julia I saw Martin Ross the first man that I knew after I got into Camp yesterday he came up to me to shake hands but gave me his left hand instead of his right for he had shot his right thumb off about a week ago but it is a doing well the boys think that he had an object in doing so After I had got my napsack off Mart told me that there was a letter over to the Michigan third and that Allen Shattock had it so Mart went over and got it for me how it hapened to go to that Regiment is more than I could tell I was glad to hear that you were well and how I would liketo of seen little Freddie when he got up and walked acrost the house bless his little heart how I would like to see him run I suppose Grandpa Caswell will take comfort a playing with him now and he will not be so troublesome to take care of without his little fingers finds lots of mischief and that they will I know if I was to home how I would let him goeit wouldent I Julia In the letter that I received from you last night you wrote that you had written two since you had recieved any from me now I will tell you how many I have written this month I wrote to you March the 3rd the 10th the 17th the 19th the 23rd and this one which makes six so there must be something rong and what it is I cannot tell I have written nine letters this month I have written to Mother to Silas and Mr Conrad I have written to you when I have had to lay down and rest before I could finnish the it and I shall write often shall be glad when we can get mail regular I am afraid that if Mr Williams leaves that Harriett will make a poor fist doing chores and of cource you cannot help her but do what you think is for the best for you are boss now and I guess that you will make a good one Tell Frank that the little English man is all right and I guess that he thinks that she is, now school mom what do you think of that now Frank if you will stop with my gall when you get married I will pick up chips for you a week I think that is a good offer dont you [On Envelope:] Mrs Julia Merrill Fowlerville Livingston Co Michigan
