Dearest Spot
On Earth to me is
Home, Sweet Home.
The dearest spot of earth to me
Is home, sweet home;
The fairy land I’ve longed to see
Is home, sweet home.
There how charmed the sense of hearing
There where hearts are so endearing.
All the world is not so cheering
As home, sweet home.
I’ve taught my heart the way to prize,
My home, sweet home;
I’ve learn’d to look with lover’s eyes
On home, sweet home.
There were vows are truly plighted,
There were hearts are so united,
All the world beside I’ve slighted
For home, sweet home.

Camp near Brandy Station
Dear Wife
We arrived here yesterday
afternoon without tents slept verry
well or as well as we expected for
cold weather you will hardly think
this of the Sunny South but the
ground is frozen hard and we
liketo to froze yesterday comeing
on the cars from Alexandria
to Brandy Station from there
we marched three or four miles
and by that time we got
straightened out we was marched
to a piece of woods and stacked
our arms then confiscated a fence
clost by and built us fires
the Michigan third is camped
near by us Allen Shattock
was over to see me last
night Soon after we got here
he has been quite poorley
since he came to his regiment
he thinkgs that he will not
go home on another furlough
but I think that I shall
come home on every one that
I can get but I donot know
when that will be but I
would liketo hear from home
a littler oftener if it is
possible last night when the
male came in George Elliott
Elisha Wright and Daniel Smith
got letters and I stood with
open mouth and eyes but
there was none for me that
made me look down my nose but
I felt a little better when
George told me that my little
family were quite smart
I have written three letters
letters home this is the
fourth I promised to
write to mother this time
but I will haveto wate
until we get into more
comfortable quarters for my
fingers are so stiff and cold
that I can hardley write

that we had sent our money
