Dear Wife
Although it seems
a long time since I have
heard from you I think
it cannot be a great while since
you have heard from me
for I have written every week
according to promice, I received
one from you the 2nd and
answered it the 3rd and on
the 8th wrote again,
I received one from Florance
the 7th and answered hers
the 10th hers was dated April
1st said the folks were all
well and that Mother was
over to your house but I
did not feel hardley satisfied
with that but was glad to hear
from from a friend that I
have had so short an acquaintance
with and who I think is a
friend indeed and hope the time
may come when we may be
better acquainted, But
Julia I wanto hear from you
so bad that I can hardley contain
myself there was two or three days
that we did not get any mail atall
for it had rained and swolen the
streems so much that it took
away three Railroad Bridges between
here and Alexandera when the
male did come I expected to
get as many as two letters but
have got none yet, George Elliott
George Disbrow and Noah got letters
this morning, but you must not
think that I am blaming you
Julia for I know that you would
write to me if you would but I would
like to know how you are getting along
if there is any such thing as hearing
April 15th
I received a letter from
Mr Conrad last evening he
said that he saw Father Fewlass
the day before he wrote which
was the 7th said you was well
then but I am very anxious
to hear from you and shall
not be contented until I
do, Julia I have been having
the mumps but have got over
them had them rather lite
but I have been afflicted
almost as bad as Job, I dont
know what I shall have next
for I have had about all of the
distempers now, I commenced
this letter yesterday but the
Pay Master came to pay us off and
we had the pay rolls to sign
and bothering around until it
was to late to finish it.
We shall send what little we
have to spare to Dexter
by express but I cannot
tell when it will be but probably
before a great while we shall
probably express it to John Fewlass
When you get it I want you to pay
Wilcox for that vinger but have
him throw of the interest, and all
that you can get along without let
Uncle John have to pay where we
owe but I hope ever this that you
have had an order from the Supervisor
for some of the Women have got one
I want you to try for ten dollars for
Wilsons wife had two ten dollar orders
last spring. Well Julia I must
close with my best respects to
all enquiring friends and you and
Freddie and give him a good hugging
and kissing for me as often as you can
From your affectionate husband
S. B. Merrill
Julia I would send you five dollars in this letter but I dont know as
all of my letters goes through
