Dear Cousin I
recived your kind letter to
day and was glad to hear that
you was well. I am well and
hearty at present and in fine
spirits I now begin to hink
that this war is comeing to
a close soon and I think that
it is time that we had them
whiped. we marched from murfreesboro
on the 24 of June and it commenced
raining the same day and rained
every day for seven and it lookes
so that it might rane some to
day. I think when we move
again that we will go to
Knoxville ten. and from there
to richmond and take that
and then we will be through
fighting and then I hope
to come home and se the
folks but there is a great
many vacant places that will
never be filled again. the rebbles
are deserting every day there was
5 or 6 come in yesterday while I
was on picket and they said
that there was three thousand
more upon the mountains that
wanted to come in but they
were afraid that they would
get shot if they tried to come
in in squads so that they come
in one or two at a time. they
say that general Forest
command has dwindled down
to about 1000 men and a
month ago he had a whole
division. and that general brag
has not got any army this
side of the tennessee river and
when he was crosing the river
general burnside gave him
particular fits lee has got
in a tite place at last and
I hope that they will keep
him there or capture him
and if we do it will not be
much of a job to capture
richmond and then we want
to get charlston and that
will end the war and then
for a good time that is
if I live to se it
Please except this with
respects
Give My best respects
to all enquiring Friends
from you ever obedient
