Regiment: 1st Michigan Engineers Battles Mentioned: Historical Figures: Chattanooga Tenn Sept 4th 1864 Dear Sister After waiting as long as I can without hearing from you. I must commence a letter to you to let you know that I am well yet and in Chattanooga. We left here last Thursday evening for Marietta. We took every thing on the cars even to the wagon grain and we went down as far as Dalton. Thats thirty eight miles from here and the order was countermanded and we had to come back here again and we have just got straightened round again. I have had a firstrate visit with Chaney he likes soldiering Firstrate, he is well and looks tiptop. I saw Ike other night when we went to dalton but dident have any time to talk with him any I told him that we were going on to the front but I guess that he will laugh [   ?   ] when he finds out we had to come back again The morning [   ?   ] yesterday morning and this reports that Atlanta is in our possesion but I am afraid that it is most to good [  ?  ] to beleive but I hope that it is true dont you I know you do. What you dank eh. I got a letter from Norman he said that they were all well he said that he got a letter from Myron the day that he wrote to me he said that he was well. I hope that he will always remain so. George and Mron are well. I havent heard from Hudson in a long time and I dont know if I ever shall and I dont care whether I do or not I am just an independent as they are we signed the pay rolls last night but I dont know how long it will be before we will be paid off I have got a hundred and four dollars coming to me this pay day I shall send home a hundred dollars. I wont write any more till this after noon Four oclock I will try and finish my lett before supper for we have got to go out on inspection at six I have had a good visit chancy to day he has been down here most all day the mail hasent come in yet to day we dont get the mail only once and a while. Old Wheeler has been teasing up the rail road between here and nashville I am going to send home a picture and I want you to get me too dozen photographs taken and send to me I want them so that I can change with the old boys before they are mustered out I cant think of any more to write this time answer this [     ?     ] and you will oblige your Broth Sabin Sunday Evening [On Envelope:] Miss Mariette Hutchins Berlin Ottawa Co Mich
