Regiment: 1st Michigan Engineers Battles Mentioned: Historical Figures: Chattanooga Tenn May 7th ’64 Sister Mariette it is with the greatest pleasure that attempt answer your kind letter which recd yesterday afternoon and I was glad to hear that you were well and going to school at last for I begun to think that you would never yet to going to school your letter found me well and enjoying myself tiptop I am in camp again now and we will every night as all them that want to and I like to drill firstrate George has just gone out to work. I was out to work yesterday so I havent got any thing to do to day one regt. are building a magalzine and we have to cary brick and mortar it isent very nice work but it all counts on three years. Oh Met I recd a letter from Norman and Sarah Southwick yesterday these were all well dont you pitty me for I have got five letters letters to answer and I dont know what I shall do for I am tired of writing all ready. I expect we shall be paid off in a few days for Co. K and B have signed the pay rolls and Myron went down to bridge Port and got the new secruity descriptive lists day before yesterday and go back last nigh and they are making out our pay calls to day Frank House stayed here last night he is in the fourth cavalry. [  ?  ] Swan has been here but I dident see him it was when I was down to the mill he is to work for the government well I guess you will begin to think that I hante going to say any thing about the rest of the boys but I is they are all well and enjoying themselves firstrate Ike is out of the hospile and getting along firstrate you said it was raining up north but it isent raining down here for the roads are very dusty down here now and it is very [          ?          ] down here now. I have have had a letter from Uncle Hs folks and they gave me a bid to come to these [   ?   ] the next Thursday but I was so busy that I couldent go well I cant think of any more to write this time and if you can read what I have written you will do better than I think you can write soon good Morning sis I hope this will find you well.
