Regiment: 1st Michigan Engineers Battles Mentioned: Historical Figures: William T. Sherman May 26th /65 Washington, D.C. Friday morning Dear sister Mariette as our marching is over and we are again in camp I am going to try and answer your letters as soon as I get them. your letter which I recd last night found me well. But I tell you we have had an awful hard march since I wrote to you last. I believe the last time I wrote to you we were in Golds Boro N.C. since then I have seen the capitol. of N.C. [  ?  ] and the U.S. we marched through Washington on review day before yesterday. I suppose it was Grand sight for the lookers on. But I couldent see it in that light for I was never tireder in my life than I was after we got through. the Potomac army was reveiwed the day before. But old Shermans Army takes the [  ?  ]ference. the people thought we looked as though we had seen some service. for we havent drawed any clothing since we left Golds Boro. and the potomac Boys had on their white gloves and paper colars and their Boots Blacked, Well Met I dont how long we shall have to stay down here But I think not a great while But some think that the vetterans and them that enlisted when I will be held But I cant [  ?  ] it yet, the Govener of Mich made a speech to us yesterday and he said that we would all be mustered out just as soon as our papers could be made out. so I think that we will be home in the curse of time. But I think that they have abused old Shermans army for they havent paid us a cent in nine months. the boys make raids on every suttlers shebang they come to. I saw [  ?  ]M. George Oviatt and the rest of the rest of the Boys in the 21st Michigan Myrons regiment is camped a bout a mile from here. But I havent seen him yet. But I guess that I will go over there this after noon if it stops raining. I guess that we got through just in the right time for it commenced as soon as we got through to rain and it has most all the time since [  ?  ] mett I hope that I shall get home in time to visit your at school. I think that you study some since I come away. But I am afraid that you are studying to hard. I cant think of thing to writ that is so. and I will not write any more this time. the rest of the Boys are well. I got a letter from nett last night and I must answer this after noon write as soon as you get this and I will try and do better next time from your Big Brother Sabin [On Envelope:] Mariette Hutchins Cooperville Ottawa Co Michigan In care of S.
