Regiment: 1st Michigan Engineers Battles Mentioned: Historical Figures: Chattanooga 1864 March 25th Dear Sister I received your letter quite a spell ago but have neglected writing untill to day I am well at present and hope to find you the same it is raining to day it is getting quite muddy the snow has been 14 inches deep but is most all off now I am to work in a steam saw mill and there isent any logs down now so I dont have to work to day there is [  ?  ] men out of this. Co to work here we have firstrate timer down here but it dont seem much like soldiering it seems as though I was around home to work out Theodore is cooking here in the Mill the rest of the boys are all well Frank Wells is all right again I was up to camp yesterday and he was out to work and so Ike Wells Knapp has had the Mumps but he dident have them very hard Well sis I have just been to dinner and what do you suppose I had for dinner I had smoked ham and greece and bread and coffee we draw rations this afternoon and I am glad of it for I dident have any sugar the last time for some one stole it we havent got to work any more untill and I am going up to camp this after noon Geord was down here yesterday he got a letter aunt celistia I was glad to hear that Harley was getting better I wish that I could have been home on your birthday I would made you squall but I guess that I will have the advatage of you on my birthday tell Net that her old man is all right and that she must write to me as often as she can I havent had a for over a week but the mail comes in this after noon I think there a letter for me I cant of any more this time good by write soon from Sabin Mariette Hutchins [On Envelope:] Miss Mariette Hutchins Berlin Ottawa Co Mich
