Regiment: 1st Michigan Engineers Battles Mentioned: Historical Figures: Ceorses Landing July 20th 64 Dear Sister it is with the greatest pleasure that I take my pen to answer your welcomed letter which I recd this morning the boys just came up from Chattanooga on the steam Boat they went down last sunday with a raft since I wrote to you last our Co moved up where we were and we have all moved fifteen miles farther up the river and we are haveing some of the nobleist times in the known world. I quit work yesterday and I am not going to work any more for a while on [   ?   ] of my eyes. They have been getting sore for a long while and I cant hardly see to write. Georg is out too work sawing logs he has got two letters but he dont know it yet for the mail came in after he went out to work. I wish that you had went up to Lisbon the fourth and enjoyed your self for I never enjoyed myself better in my life than I did the fourth we had fresh mutton has our [   ?   ] dinner and black Berry pie ther is no end to it. I thought of home a good many times the fourth and I should like to have been there firstrate but under the circumstances I had rather be here weill I shall have to stop writing and finish my letter this afternoon for I cant hardly see to write. Met I will now try and finish your letter one of George letters was from you dated the twelfth of July. Some of our letters lay in Chattanooga quite a spell some times for we dont have much chance for getting it only once in a while. The boys are going down with a raft tomorrow so that I can send my letter right out. Oh dear I wish you could be here just a little while so that I wouldent have to write for I dont know nothing to write that will interest you [   ?   ] are in a very nice place and [  ?  ] have first rate mater and plenty to eat we have all the Potatoes that we can eat just by digging them we went up the river last sunday to on old Rebs and dug about two bushels there is nothing much but rebs around here o hum I cant think of any more to write this time but I will try and do better next time write as soon as you get this from Sabin [On Envelope:] Miss Maryett Hutchins Berlin Ottawa Co Mich
