Saturday Morning
Savannah, Ga.
Jan 21st 1865
Dear Sister Mariette
how are you this
morning. I am well and rugged
as ever and hope to find you
the same. I recieved too letters
from you yesterday the last one
was dated Dec 14
th but I was
very glad to hear from you. I
wrote one letter just after we got
here and I guess that you will
think a great letter it was but
I hope that you wont get it
for I had the tooth ache and
I was pretty tired myself so that
I couldent think of anything but
never mind I am all right
again and ready for another march
but I dont know how long it
will be before we will march
but I not a great while for
we are under marching orders
and they have turned over all
the tools. We was called up last
night at 12 oclock and it was
raining like every thing and I
tell you we thought that we
got to march but we only
had to go down to the river
and take out a piece of a
pontoon bridge, so as to let the
vessells up the river. We thought
that we got off pretty well at
that. I was surprised to hear
that Nelson Brown was dead.
But I dident think that we would
ever see Frank again when we
left Atlanta for he looked awful
bad then, but the rest of the
boys all stood the march tiptop
I never saw the boys when they
felt better than they do now
Oh met we are all comeing
home to the fourth what you
dank, eh… I should like to be
at home this winter to go to
school but never mind if I
dont go to school after I get
out of this then I am a
Goat that ish so, oh met
where did you go New Years
and how did you enjoy yourself
I was was in camp all day
and I enjoyed better than I
did last New Years in Grand
Rappids Barracks for it wasent
quite as cold as it was there
well met I guess that I have
written enough nonsence for this time
so I will come to a close. Give my
best respects to all the rest
of the folks and keep a share
for yourself, write soon. From
Sabin
