Regiment: 1st Michigan Engineers Battles Mentioned: Historical Figures: Feb 18th, 64 Dear Sister I have just received your letter and ‘was glad to hear from home. I have been about 3 ½ miles from the camp to day loading sawlogs George and Theodore was out to the boys got here a week ago yesterday all safe and sound Frank Wells has got the measles he was taken with them to day. Ike and Wells and Dennis and Frank Orwitt and Frank Wells Co Tk. Dennis got 2 letters to day I got a letter from Nettie last night and and one from Frank Yage he says the folks are all well it has been 5 weeks since I have writen you but I dont calculate to wait as long again I have been here 4 weeks to morrow. I never had much beter time than I have now we have potatoes sugar and coffee and beans and bread to eat I wish you could see our little house, you would think I couldent help enjoying myself I suppose I could enjoy myself better to home if the war was over. I should like to have George Wolverton before he died and I should have seen him if we hadent stoped at brige port we stayed there from tuesday until friday and George died, wensday I have seen Dan Hamilton [  ?  ] Blakely and sink Vanderhoof and Charley Dickinson they are all well but I sink he has got the [   ?   ] pretty bad well sis I should like to be at home a little while I could tell you more than I could write in a hours for you know I am not much use to writing. I suppose I had aught to write to pa and ma but you can tell them how I am getting along Theodore has jus come in and he is so full of the old scratch he dont know what to do he is looking over so I cant hardly write I dont know what I shall have to do with him yet but George is about as bad but he dont [  ?  ] it + you can tell pa that I see a man that come from hud- son, his name is Bedell but I dont rember him he says he has been to one house lots of times he says that he rembers me George and Theodore has gone to writing so I must stop for this time but you must write to me as often as you can for it does me more good than to meal of victuals I think I have written quite a lot for me the rebels are deserting fast they think the war wont longer than next fall I calculate to see the last dog hung now.
