Regiment: 1st Michigan Engineers Battles Mentioned: Historical Figures: Chattanooga, Tenn Apr 21th 1862 Dear Sister Mariette It is with great that I take my pen to answer your kind letter which I received Apr the 15th it found me acording to your wishes well and I hope this will find you the same I got Netts letter day before yesterday and I shall answer it as soon as I can get around to it you said it was very muddy up there this spring it is qite different down here for it hasent rained hardly any and conceqently the roads are qite durty Well sis I have written to norman but have not received an answer yet I tell you it is quite a task for me to write a letter and I beleive if I were to home I wouldent write no great many Nett said that Mast was dead it dont seem possible I wish he could have until I got back but I dont know but he has suffred long enough I see Tommy Wasson and Cove rosegrant and Theodore Carlisle the other day but you will see them before you get this I suppose Theodore wont get there in time to see Mast. I wish that you and Nett wouldent say any any thing about my pictire for there isnt any macine down here that can take it and another thing I havent got any money to spare now to have it taken now but I think we will be paid off the first of next month and then I shall have it taken so you may expect it as soon as we are paid off well mett I never enjoyed myself so well in my life as I do none, the rest of the boys are well Ike is so he [  ?  ] got out around well I must go to work now and finish my letter this eveni ng Good morning Thursday noon I sit down again to finish this letter but I dont know as I shall have time to finish it before the mill starts up or not. I have just been to dinner. I was up to camp last night and Steve Owens he is here to work this regiment is build- ing a magagene andhe is here to help do the mason work you wanted to know whether I had been vaxinated or not I have been once but it dident work. I am a going to try it again before long I think you and John M. had ought to be put into bag and shook up to see which would come out a head in giving me orders about playing cards and swearing just as though I dident know enough to get along with out it myself well I dont know as I do.
