Camp near Corinth 3rd
Dear Wife I have just two
minutes & a half to write we have
just come in from a camp about 15 min
from here we have been out on a scout
for the first time we had quite a
time indeed 4 or 5 of the Co H was
taken prisoners Rogers was taken
he clerked in Smithes Store at Paw
Paw. they were out about 5 miles from
camp were attacked by the rebels & were
ordered to dismount when the Cavalry
came down on them & took 22 horses
& the men 5 in number but rogers got
away from them quite nice they took
him but his horse was scart & got away
& he told them he had no arms but he had
a revolver in his boots & when they werw after
he took a french leave he pulled out his
revolver & shot at the rebel & then
run with all his might in the bushes
& got away but did not get back untill
the next day about 4 oclock.
they are fighting not far off from
here for we can hear the canon &
musketry quite plain old Price is trying
to come in to Corinth I presume we
will have some fun within a few
hours for our men were ordered to dism
ount & leave the saddles on the horses
& the boys are eating their breakfast
I sent to you fiftenn dollars
the other day & said I would send
you some more this time but cant
get the blue back the money I have is gold & silver
the boys are all quite well I blieve
Ike I have not seen him for 5 days
he was getting better than you may
think this is a short letter but it is
better than none I have Recd 1 letter from

close for we have orders to start
