Regiment: 3rd Michigan Cavalry Battles Mentioned: Historical Figures: Camp near Corinth Nov. 27th 1863 Dear Wife I received your kind & welcome letters of the 17th of this month was glad to hear that your are well & hope you may be permited to enjoy good health as long as I have to remain away We are all well here now Milan looks tough & hardy tell Uncle Noble he is all right & I think will make a number 1 soldier he stood the fire like a man at Wyor & also at New Albany your letters that you wrote was both mailed the same day now you may think it strange that you did not get any mail from me but it was not because I neg lected to write for I have been punctual in writing Now it seems the strangest thing in the world that Arnold should write that I owe him for I do not owe him a single cent & after this I want you to write to me before paying any Debt that any one claims & if I owe them they will get it & if not they will not get it probly by the time you get this there will be seventy six dollars at your house for you to use what you want & put the rest on Intrest I sent it Lieut Wilson of Co A & has Command of the Bat tery he is a very fine man I have sixty five Doll here now that I will send as soon as I have a chance & if you can put it out at interest with that you have out now it will make upwards of three hundred Lets see160 on interest 76 sent by Lieut 65 that I will sent the first opportunity 301.00 quite a salary for a private try & put this all our $ if you can. Now as to that money that Ruth has of Joes see her about it & if she has it get it & write to me & if she dont have it see if she can give you a time when you may have it for it will save my sending it home by Express As to your working out I think you have done first rate but dont neg lect helping mother for she has done a good deal for you & me & we must try & repay her for it & Duane too You spoke about your being extrav gant I want you to use all you need for yourself & little Trudy to & the rest save for there may be a time when you will want it & myself too I was glad it took (I mean the Draft) some of the men it did but am sorry they can get off with pay ing their 300 hundred Doll they are the men I would like to see drill in the hot sun or go out on a scout of 15 days with hard tack & but a very little of that but I dont want you to think that We fare as hard as that for it is none but those that lived hard up at home that find fault here I will give you an idea of our Shebang as they term it it is made out of shake rove out 3 feet long posts put in the ground & made on the same plan of a balloon frame ours is 24 feet long & 16 wid & in the south end we have an old fashion fire place Dutch I mean this house is occupied by Chat fields squad of 14 we have plenty of room & the best camping ground that we ever had.
