Dear Wife I received your kind
& welcome letters of the 17th of this
month was glad to hear that your
are well & hope you may be permited
to enjoy good health as long as I
have to remain away We are all
well here now Milan looks tough
& hardy tell Uncle Noble he is all
right & I think will make a number
1 soldier he stood the fire like a man
at Wyor & also at New Albany
your letters that you wrote was
both mailed the same day now
you may think it strange that
you did not get any mail from
me but it was not because I neg
lected to write for I have been
punctual in writing Now
it seems the strangest thing in
the world that Arnold should write
that I owe him for I do not owe him
a single cent & after this I want
you to write to me before paying any
Debt that any one claims & if I owe
them they will get it & if not they
will not get it probly by the time
you get this there will be seventy
six dollars at your house for you
to use what you want & put the
rest on Intrest I sent it Lieut Wilson
of Co A & has Command of the Bat
tery he is a very fine man I have
sixty five Doll here now that I will
send as soon as I have a chance &
if you can put it out at interest
with that you have out now it will
make upwards of three hundred
Lets see
160 on interest
76 sent by Lieut
65 that I will sent the first opportunity
301.00 quite a salary for a private
try & put this all our $ if you can.
Now as to that money that Ruth
has of Joes see her about it & if
she has it get it & write to me & if
she dont have it see if she can give
you a time when you may have it
for it will save my sending it home
by Express
As to your working out I think you
have done first rate but dont neg
lect helping mother for she has done a
good deal for you & me & we must
try & repay her for it & Duane too
You spoke about your being extrav
gant I want you to use all you need
for yourself & little Trudy to & the
rest save for there may be a time
when you will want it & myself
too I was glad it took (I mean the
Draft) some of the men it did but
am sorry they can get off with pay
ing their 300 hundred Doll
they are the men I would like to
see drill in the hot sun or go
out on a scout of 15 days with
hard tack & but a very little of that
but I dont want you to think
that We fare as hard as that for
it is none but those that lived hard
up at home that find fault here
I will give you an idea of our
Shebang as they term it it is made
out of shake rove out 3 feet long
posts put in the ground & made
on the same plan of a balloon frame
ours is 24 feet long & 16 wid & in
the south end we have an old
fashion fire place Dutch I mean
this house is occupied by Chat
fields squad of 14 we have plenty
of room & the best camping ground that
we ever had. Now let me tell you that
Edwin & myself had an oyster
dinner yesterday This from
