Good morning Jane
for such it is here as far as
the weather goes towards making
one feel well & good this finds us
all well & hope it will find those
that make my life worthy of living
Oh, how I have thought of little Trudy
since you wrote to me she was sick
& how it would make me feel to hear
that she was no more here on earth
But I will stop for it makes me
feel bad to think of it when
last I wrote to you we were going
out on a scout of 10 days but did
not stay only 4 had a very good
time had a picknick at noon
& a dance at night Jane you
laugh to see the girls dance
down here they cant dance with
our ladies at home that you may
believe We have got a choir in
our company & we have to go with
the Colonel & sing for the audien
ce Patriotic songs we have a
very good selection We have
got to go out with him next Friday
to Brownsville but dont know
as we shal go as I have just
applied for a furlough to go down
to Grand Junction to see
Edmond & Cub & if we go we will
have a number one time Ed is
going with me Edwin Rice is here now came
up on a leave of absence but will
return in a day or two he says the
boys are all well down there
Jane I am going to send you my
picture in a locket & you may have
yours taken & put in the other side
I have mine taken and am going
going to send it to Mother
for I think she ought to have it dont
you We are all enjoying our selves
very well today have had some good
lemonade wish you was here to
help drink some with us but am
sorry you cant but be patient & hope
for I think there is a good time coming
wait a little longer now in return
you must send little Trudy
likeness Oh how I wish I could
be there this summer to stop with
you but maybe I will get a furlough
& come home this fall for a short
time how would you like that
there is not much news to write
now but the report is that Vicksburg
is ours but I dont believe it
We will probly stay here this summer
but I hope not for I want to go
down in front where I can
find some of the rebs that have
that makes men toil hard for
Jane you have not wrote how
much money I have sent to you
yet write in your next
Edwin received a letter from
home the other night they were all
well but Aunt Kit & Rebecky
but I hope when we hear from
there next time may bring
news that they are well once more
Uncle Noble wrote to me two or
three days ago that they were
all well & that my nursery looks
fine & that he could come down
here this summer but he could
not get anyone to work from him
in the nursery Oh Jane I liked
to forget Mother says that Hat
Arnold has the name of being
a bad woman how Peter must
feel about it I tell you if it was
me it would kill me nearly
But I must close by wishing you
good for this time excuse all
mistakes
Yours forever Mitchell H Hogmire
Give my best respects to all
I will write more next time
