Dear Wife
I have a little spare time and
improve it by writing to you
this leaves us all well
as can be expected there
is not much sickness now
in the regt now only Dysentery
We are now doing Infantry
Duty on our Regt But I am on
a Detail at town putting up
Wagons with 30 others and we
have fine times dont have much
to do and no Guard Duty
to do have been there for 10 days
and will probly stay there for
a long time if our Regt stays
here We dont get our horses yet
and dont know when we will
They say that there has been a
Petition sent in to the Sec of War
to have our Regt mounted and
I hope they will be successful
in mounting us Jane I the
last letter I received from you
bore date May 27
th and that is
later than any of the rest of our
boys have as yet John says it
is strange he dont get any news
from Carl but it is not strange
to me for he must know that
a letter cant come here in a minute
and I dont want you to think
if you dont get any from me
that I have forgotten you and all
is dear to me But hope for the
best and I will write as often as
I can Ben was over here to
day says he ought to hear from
Duane. Now while I think of it
Duane and Mother how are all of the
rest of the family but I will stop
for past remindances such
things will happen, or does happen
in one’s life Although to our regret
and sorrow many times how I
wish I could be there to night think
I would laugh at you some but
you must remember laughing
they say in catching say Mother
what do you think of it when you
get well write and let me know
I did not let Edwin see what
Jane wrote but I would like to see
what he would say he is well
and so is Albert and Milan &
Charley Milan has a Boil on
his jaw and a very bad one too
George Bridges is well and
Charley Spencer has been very
sick but but is better
now guess he will get along all
right if he is carefull you can
see by looking on the map when
we are and that we are a long
ways from home White is one
of the nicest streams I ever
saw in the south very deep
and clear and fish lots of
them Edwin caught a mess
today and I bought a catfish
that weighed over seventy pounds
there is one of the nicest prairies
between here and Little Rock
I ever saw lots of deer on it
oh let me say Ed Jelley and his
Brother Jim was left to St Louis
And we have not heard from
them since I think they have
Deserted but hope not
I will have to bring this to a close
when next you write tell me how the
nursery looks etc. etc. Give my
best respects to all and trudy
for me is all I can say at this
time Excuse all mistakes and Brevity
Yours till Death
