Regiment: 3rd Michigan Cavalry Battles Mentioned: Historical Figures: June 13 64 DuValls Bluff May Dear Wife I have a little spare time and improve it by writing to you this leaves us all well as can be expected there is not much sickness now in the regt now only Dysentery We are now doing Infantry Duty on our Regt But I am on a Detail at town putting up Wagons with 30 others and we have fine times dont have much to do and no Guard Duty to do have been there for 10 days and will probly stay there for a long time if our Regt stays here We dont get our horses yet and dont know when we will They say that there has been a Petition sent in to the Sec of War to have our Regt mounted and I hope they will be successful in mounting us Jane I the last letter I received from you bore date May 27th and that is later than any of the rest of our boys have as yet John says it is strange he dont get any news from Carl but it is not strange to me for he must know that a letter cant come here in a minute and I dont want you to think if you dont get any from me that I have forgotten you and all is dear to me But hope for the best and I will write as often as I can Ben was over here to day says he ought to hear from Duane. Now while I think of it Duane and Mother how are all of the rest of the family but I will stop for past remindances such things will happen, or does happen in one’s life Although to our regret and sorrow many times how I wish I could be there to night think I would laugh at you some but you must remember laughing they say in catching say Mother what do you think of it when you get well write and let me know I did not let Edwin see what Jane wrote but I would like to see what he would say he is well and so is Albert and Milan & Charley Milan has a Boil on his jaw and a very bad one too George Bridges is well and Charley Spencer has been very sick but but is better now guess he will get along all right if he is carefull you can see by looking on the map when we are and that we are a long ways from home White is one of the nicest streams I ever saw in the south very deep and clear and fish lots of them Edwin caught a mess today and I bought a catfish that weighed over seventy pounds there is one of the nicest prairies between here and Little Rock I ever saw lots of deer on it oh let me say Ed Jelley and his Brother Jim was left to St Louis And we have not heard from them since I think they have Deserted but hope not I will have to bring this to a close when next you write tell me how the nursery looks etc. etc. Give my best respects to all and trudy for me is all I can say at this time Excuse all mistakes and Brevity Yours till Death M H Hogmire
