Regiment: 3rd Michigan Cavalry Battles Mentioned: Historical Figures: Le Grange Jan 24th 1864 Dear Wife & Parents I have seated myself to pen a few lines to you This leaves us all well but Dave & he is getting along very well now his Brandy came very good at the time Phil sent it probly saved his life And the things came very good you sent me We invited Ben over to help eat them (saueegge I mean) & the apple sauce was old gay you may believe if made me think of home & the many com forts that We could enjoy if this War was over but I think it will soon come to an end at least we can only hope for the best Aas to your writing to me you had better defer it until you her from me again for We are about to make a strategic movement one that may surprise a few of the Rebs & some that are not rebs too We have just got our Baracks done & now have to leave them so it is with us it does but little good to prepare for comfort for it is but moment ary in the service But it does no good to complain We are now having fine weather such as we gener aly have in Michigan in May Now as to the move ment I will say they are evac uating Corinth & this line of Rail Road through to memphis & of course the 16th army corpse will make a general move probly for Atlanta Georgia & then where will the Rebs be I think the next line will be Vicksburg & Grenada but cant say for certain as to selling my Farm I will have to send the Power of Atorney to Duane for if you send a deed to be made out here I will have to go to Memphis & it will cost quite a sum to have it done it may be possible for me to come hom after a while but dont look for me too so[chewed away] as you may be disa[chewed away] We have had the [chewed away] here that we [chewed away] has been [chewed away] more I [chewed away] will w[chewed away] Kiss [chewed away] lock of [chewed away] I have asked Edwin to write a few lines but he sais he wont until you an swer his last but I can say I will write as often as I can & you must do the same your last was num 1 letter well filled but Jane in a hurry to write this so as to send it by this mail train M.
