Dear Jane
I Recd your letter last night & hasten to reply to it we are
all well & hope you are the same in Burr Oak I am
at this time on picket or Guard, have been in this
place for nearly 2 weeks have fine times plenty to
eat you wrote you were going out to Burr Oak with
Daniel & Mary I can say I wish I was there too think
I could enjoy myself prety well I would like to hear
some good music right well about now. Think it strange
that Daniel has not answered my letter I wrote him tell
his so it has been a long time since I heard from or saw
Edmond
in a long time he was well & so was Cub I
wish they was with us Jane when you write let
me know where little Dan is etc All is quiet in
the west & I guess it is on the Potomac too The news
came in from Vicksburg last night that our men had made
an attack on it with our gunboats Ed has been
bothering me & you will have to excuse all mistakes
I wish you could be her this morning to se the
Boys all feel well Ed has got a fidle 7 we have lots of
fun we will stay out here probly for two or three
weeks longer it is 12 miles to Jackson it layes
east of here our forage train came out last night
it seems tough to live on the country let me give you
an idea of how they go to work for instance we start from
Jackson with one hundred teams & wagons for the country
come to a rich old planter house open the gate drive into
the barnyard & fill up our wagons without any ceremony
& maby go to the smoke house & then a few hams
is missing from the old cesesh
but dont think I ever have anything Oh, pshaw
I cant half write what I want too wish I could be
there today but I look for the time to come when I can go
home & have enough to live on & enjoy it
Jane you wanted to know if you should draw orders
do as you are a mind to I can send home enough for
you to live on but (every little helps as the old woman
said) when it rained) we have the best of weather warm
& nice just like spring Ed sends his best wishes to Cain
& sais he is going to write to him
Now a few words Kena & Earnest
Kena be a good girl & dont kiss my little Trudy to much

good school this winter & that you may improve the oppor
tunity you have of learning to the best advantage you can
