Dear Mother
I received yours of Dec. 9th
last night and hasten in
reply it found me well and
all of the rest of the friends
Edwin is writing to Marinda
in reply to the one she wrote in
yours I also wrote one to her
yesterday How I would like
to be there Christmas Think I
could enjoy a few days of peace
as well as any one if I had
the chance but I am in hopes
it may be my luck to come home
next fall but how often one
is disapointed in this life
for instance yesterday one of Co
L men who had been in the
Hospital for a long time and
getting well as fast as one could
started from the hospital to go
to his company for the purpose
of marking some clothes he had
to wash when in the rear of Co F a
man was chopping a dry stub for
wood and did not see him until
the stub started to fall when he cry
ed out for him to run but it was
to late the limb hit him on the head
causing instant death also broke
his neck both legs and one arm
He was a new recruit and was
from Wisconsin his mother was
dead but his father is left with
a large family of small ones
he being the oldest
Mother of late when you write what
makes you complain so much
about our writing I presume it
is with you as it is with us
and no more so I dislike to see
the mail come in without
I have a letter But it often does
You spoke in yours of my sending
Jane some money to buy clothing
with I will do so if ever we get
paid I have six months pay due
me now and have one hundred
and thirty doll due me in the
Company private debts making
in all $238.00 doll due me here
I also wrote to Spence to send
me some Gold pens and if he does
so I will make a right smart
on them Now as to the payment
due Uncle Noble I have writen be
fore I wish to pay him as fast
as I can for interest is what takes
off the proffits I also wrote to Henry
to let some one have the place to work
next summer and be sure and
have a contract drawn if you
let it Jim Gilbert I think would
be a good hand to let it too
Mother as to our situation
it would almost impossible
to have it better and be soldiers
This afternoon at two oclock we
are to have a non com school
for the purpose of discussing the
different points in Tackticks
and regulations We also have
meeting twice every Sunday by
Elder Harmon have quite a
Church
Now in conclusion I would
say dont forget to write for none
likes to receive letters better than
a soldier from his Mother or
his friends at home It certainly
reminds him for who he is now
suffering Mother kiss Trudy
for me to tell her pa sent it to her
Please excuse all mistakes
and give my best respects to
all From your son
Mitchell H. Hogmire
