Regiment: 3rd Michigan Cavalry Battles Mentioned: Historical Figures: Camp at St Louis Mo April 17 Dear Wife I have a few moments to spare and will improve them by replying to you letter which bears date of April 10th which was received last night and you can judge how it was perused. I was much pleased to hear of your good health and can say as much of myself and comrades. But I must say I am sory to hear of so many Deaths in your vicinity hope I will not hear of any that will come of near friends but how little we know what the next mail may bring us when we are away from friends and home and for this reason will hope for the best in the futture Duane I have a request to make of you and it is this one of the Ewers Boys has a piece of land in Bangor one mile West of Old Daniel Taylors and he wants to trade it for my share in the nursery at Breedsville and I want you to go down there and look at it and write to me right off for I think I can make a good exchange he bought it of Tipton at Lawrence and gave $300 hundred for it. Now go right off and I will make it right with you the description I cant give but it is on fifteen and the old Gent Taylor can give it to you now Duane I want you to attend to this Oh here let me say that Ganzy Thompson was here to day and said all of the people were well when he left there which was good news to me We are having lots of Drill to attend to nowadays and how long we will stay here I cant tell but quite a while I think as we have no Horses and dont know when we will but I think it will be near into July The old gent Easman is here his son is some better but dont think he will get well have lost one of comrads since we came here by the name of Joney King Death caused by a relapse of the measles Jane I wrote to Daniel and Mary the other day and sent them my photograph and I also wrote Aunt Amy and Jane Sent them one too We have but very little news to write now as everything is quiet here and I will give you an insight into my tent I have command of squad no 2 in our Company and I have the best tent on the job I mean my bed fellows and myself his name is Cruth Mallory we bought it by the bye Jane I will bring my scribling to a close by saying Give my Best Respects to all friends Yours truly M.
