Dear Wife
It is to answer your kind letter
that came to hand last night
that I have seated myself It found
me enjoying life first best and
I can truly say that I was glad to
hear that you was tolerable well
for I have feared I should hear you
was sick every time I have received
a letter from you. But I hope you
will keep up good courage for if it
was not for the hope we have the heart
would break But I must stop or you
will say I am getting serious
about some little things as the by
word is with the boys I am sorry
the local Bounty failed as
it beat me out of $25 doll
And I will further add that
it seams to me the Men
in Arlington dont know
but little or they dont attend to
what they do know for if the
Draft comes off there it will make
some of them hunt their Holes and
I do pray it may as there is some
I would like to see fetched up
to the rack or come down with
their squiblins
Jane I am sorry to hear of the
Misfortunes of those girls at
Lawrence also Miss Martindale
for I think I can judge how
her Mother must feel but such
things does happen and the best
way is the easiest way to get
along with them
John Bonesteel feels bad to
think the bounty failed in
the town for it left him so much
in debt he is not cooking now
We are having fine times now
have a school for the noncoms
twice a week and are drilled
by the Colonel in the afternoon
of each day and he puts them
right through too you can bet
it is strange I dont get an answer
from Crammer for he promised
to write as soon as he received
a letter from me
tell Aunt Aveline I have the things
she sent to Milan and will
keep them until he comes to the
Regt I will tell you of the caus
alities of our Regiment while
we were at home a young boy the
name of Loomis a nephew of
of Aunt Elisa boys and a man
by the name of Staring both of
Co A what was the cause of their
Deaths I think having the Measles
and taking cold
There is but very little sickness
in camp only such cases as
the measles or Small Pox etc.
and not a great many of them
Frank Branch has had the
small pox in camp but is
well now and none of us took
it
There has been one Desertion
in our Company while here a new
recruit by the name of Loveland
from Paw Paw got a permit
to town and has not been
heard of since probly left for
home Tell Uncle Henry to
take good care of the nursery
this summer for I think I
will be home to help make
sales of them Excuse all
mistakes & write oftener
