Regiment: 2nd Michigan Cavalry Battles Mentioned: Historical Figures: Georgia              May 21 /64 Dear Clara I thougth that I would write you a few lines we ar in the field once more and halve past threw a few more fight and still I live we are vary tiard and worn out but a little rest will set up all right once more again we halve drawn back to the rear for the purpes of resten and then I think that we will be sent on a raid around Atlanta our new men fight well I tried fare of one day we was sent a head and we run on to the rebs best works and they shot clost and fast, the men looked wild but did not stir till I gave then orders to we march swerl rods after they commenced firen a head and I saw that we were in grait danger and for no perpes for we could not see them so we fell back to our skirmish line wich was on foot, one ball came so close that it blew the wind in my sails I could not help dogen severl of our boys was wounded one killed, we drive the rebles and scatter them like chalf in the wind if thay would stand we would stand we would destroy them as fier would grass but they will not I expect that it will some time till I can write again to you for I think that we will be on the march so that thare will be no chance to write I do not now when you will git this they stop our letters till the fight is and and if you git it I do not believe that you can read it but I am nearly worn out for want of rest, orders jest came to send back all that we halve so to go flying light I must bid you a farwell until we come around again and I hope for the future yours with much love, Ira to Clara [On Envelope:] Miss Clara Simonds Watransville Tuscola Co Mich
