Miss Clarey I thought
I would write you a few
lines I left you house on
Monday and went south
from there to whipples
and thare I stayed all
night then to his fathers
and it snowed so that
I stayed thare all night
and then I went to Lapeer
and then I went to almont
and then I staid thare till
Monday then I came hear thare
is some of my rigment hear
with me we will go south
[ ? ] if nothing happens
this plase is worse than the
south for suppers we had
bread and boweld corn with
out eny grees in it and
a little salt and a cup of
coffee. this morning we
had some potatoes and salt
and bread and fat pork
half cooked and coffee black
as sut not with strength
I dont wish to praise my
bording plase bust it is nice
if I do say it, folks pity the
poor soldier south why dont
they exsamen things at home
you will remember me to
all my friend and to your
own folks we are fasend in
hear and cant get out of this
plase without a pass for
the yards is thicker then
frogs after a shower
when I git south I will
write to you agin
fare well for this time
