Michigan Volunteer Cavalry 1st Reg’t 1st Brigade, Ist Cavalry Division, Army of the Cumberland Camp, Near Fayettiville Aug. 4, 1863 Dear Clara I write you a few more lines I got a letter from you last night part from you and part from your father you said that they had taking my things well better halve them if they want then more then it do all that they cast me some money but it must go as they say I suppose, the wether is varey fine rather warme, we halve plenty marching to do but we halve gon in Camp for a while so they say but it can not say the sutherners ar coming in camp by the thousand taking the oath woman and men all the same they halve the all come to the rack or got south and a grat 4 maney soldiers ar coming in to so that they can stay at home  tell you father that I shall not send eny money this time it is not safe to send it by maile and thare is no other way to send it I did not draw my pay this time I will wait till next time I had all the money that I wish to spend my self that I make as it go a long my sister wants some money to pay hir scooling and I am a going to send hir some write soon yours with love Ira [On Envelope:] Miss Clara Simonds Watransville Tuscola Mich
