Michigan Volunteer Cavalry Camp, at Salem, July 27th, 1863 My Dear Aunt Emily, I received your kind letter of the 16th it found me in the best cind of health and was very glad to hear that it left you the same I am glad to think that I am thought so much of as to have you  write to me. I have often thought that I would write to pop. but [  ?  ] I never knew where to direct to [       ?       ] [  ?  ] for me so I have let it dwindle along untill now. And now I hope that you will excuse me for so much negligence wont you Aunt Emily if you will I will try and do the best that I Can if you will continue to write to me I will keep you posted as well as I can of what we are doing well now Aunt Em ha ha how funney that sounds to me it is just about as you said little did I think two or 3 years ago that I should have the honor of calling you Aunt, but it is so and I am happy to have this honor of calling you Aunty. and I hope that pop can or will live happily once more and I am glad to hear that you are so happy. to. but I don’t see why or I finely will ask you the question now don’t term me [  ?  ] as every inquisitive, but how did you come to marry Uncle Prospen I cant see for my part how he now dont get any [  ?  ] with me an dont mind what I say for I dont always mean what I say for you know that I would alway say what I was a mine to [  ?  ] Aunt how are all of your folks be they all well and kicking how is Hat and those other two girls I have forgotten their names wont you please tell oh faney is one and Sherlot is the other, now Lattie was always a favorite of mine in fact I all waysed cinder like fanny and Hattie was allways or at least I always that she was the best looking Girl in the neighborhood. but I guess that I will Stop such nonsense as that and try and talk some sence if it lies in my pocket to do so well Aunt when you see them first give your Mother my best respects and well wishes and the Girls At first tell them that old George hasn’t forgotten them yet wont [  ?  ] and that a few lines from them would be very acceptable to me. tell them that I will answer their letters as well as I can but be shure and dont let them see this miserable writing and meby I can fool them ha ha they neednt be afraid to write to me because I am married because I have not got one that is jealous, and she is just as fine a little peice of flesh that was ever wraped up in Calaco. that is I think so at any rate I received a letter from her this morning. She was then well and enjoying herself as finely as She could considering that I am away from home. Well enough of that on this what is Uncle Pop a doing this Season and why haint he wrote to me I believe that I wrote last and I be darned if I will write to him unless he will take the pains to drop a few [  ?  ] lines to me    Well I guess that I wont tire your patience any longer.
