Regiment: 2nd Michigan Cavalry Battles Mentioned: Historical Figures: Gordon Granger In Camp Near Frankllin, Tennasee April the 18th A.D. 1863 Dear Uncle I was very glad to receive a few lines from you I did not know but that you had almost forgotten me. but I See that I was Mistaken. Well Pop I am quite well this morning but Som what Sleeppy for I had to stand guard last night + for that reasons I did not Sleep much. But who cares I dont the old Saying is there is no great loss without Some Small gain for you See our Company has gone out on picket today + I haint got to go out I just told the oficers this morning to Kiss my heel I should not come out not untill I got Readdy + they Could not oblige me to for when we are on guard twenty four hours we are alowed Six hours to our Selves + I have Soldiered to long to Be fooled Much now I tell you. Well Pop we have Some of the nicest weather here that you about ever See. but how long it will last I don’t know. the trees are leaveing out as nice as can Be it is full as forward dawn here as May up there in old Michigan as these folks call it down here Pop we have got Some of the damendest fools for folks down here that you ever See they hardley know what good living is I sware they dont [  ?  ] say anything to them. they will say whitch if you ask them how much Corn or wheat they raised They will tell you a right smart of [  ?  ] meet a man + ask him where he lives he wills ay just over thaw [  ?  ] say how far oh right smart of a walk. Well [  ?  ] we are expecting A fight here every minnute. Bu I dont care wish that they would get up some kind of excitement [  ?  ] to [  ?  ] keep a fellows Blood in circulation you see last night the Rebbel General [  ?  ] sent a flag of truce to General Granger that if he didn’t surrender that he would take us By Storm he said that he would comence on us by nine oclock this morning But it is half past nine + there haint been a gun fired yet + I guess that there wont be one fired [  ?  ] now how But who Cares if they do attack us I dont do you if they do pitch on to us we will show them what we dam Yanks can do as they call US. well I must go + water my Horse dem it shit well Pop I am going on picket GOOD BY Give my love to all + write as soon as you get this I still remain your true Nephew George W.
