Camp 1st Mich Cavalry
May 26th 1864.
Dear Parents
your letter of April 29th is received. I was very glad to hear from you again. I am well and unharmed yet. we have had some very hard fighting and have got agood deal more to do befor we get Richmond I wrote you a letter from Malvern Hill which I hope you have received before this we are now about 30 miles from Fredericksburg on the Fredericksburg and Richmond R.R. we back yesterday I will tell you we had a very hard time wer with in three miles of Richmond our charged and took a part of a battery and a number of prisoners I do not know much about what is going on here in the army I have not seen a paper for three weeks all I know is what I can hear and that is not much with referenc to buying that land. I hard know what to say I believe rather than pay that much I would rather lay my money out in clearing up what I have got so I think you can writ to mr Babcock to winrow ten acres. tell him to be sure an not cut any of the real timber and also to keep an eye out
others does not cramp on any of it. We have been having some very warm weather for two or three weeks
I do not think of any thing more at present so good by and write soon
