Oct 20th                                      1861 Dear Sister I received your letter of Oct 15th yesterday + I am very thankfull to hear from you so often I am well as usual and hope this will find you the same I am on guard at a spring about half a mile from camp so I have a good chance to write today we had an inspection today as usual I have no news of importance to write very thing is quiet about Washington I sent John a N.Y. paper with the acount of a skirmish near Harpers Ferry also Wilkes pamphlet of the Bull Runn Battle you think I look thin=I have not been in better condtn since I left home Old Genl Scott says he has just got us down to fighting weight but I allways thought I could fight best when I was fat, but I suppose Scott knows more about war then I do, so I will give up to him. by the way how do you like my bill of fare it is good enough for dogers but white folks couldnt drive on it, could they Nelley tell John to be steady and stay at home and he will fare better than he would out here dont put yourself out on my acount for any time will do= for the minature iff you hear from Albert let me know when he leaves Augusta the nearest rebbel is at Fairfax Court House about 15 miles from here give my love to all the family + receive the same from your unworthy brother G.W.Fisher
