Dear Sister
I received your
letter of Oct 15th yesterday
+ I am very thankfull to
hear from you so often
I am well as usual and
hope this will find you
the same I am on guard
at a spring about half a
mile from camp so I have
a good chance to write today
we had an inspection today
as usual I have no news
of importance to write
very thing is quiet about
Washington I sent John
a N.Y. paper with the
acount of a skirmish
near Harpers Ferry
also Wilkes pamphlet of
the Bull Runn Battle
you think I look thin=I
have not been in better
condtn since I left home
Old Genl Scott says
he has just got us down
to fighting weight
but I allways thought I
could fight best when I was
fat, but I suppose Scott
knows more about war then
I do, so I will give up to
him.
by the way how do
you like my bill of
fare
it is good enough for
dogers but white folks
couldnt drive on it, could
they Nelley
tell John to be steady
and stay at home
and he will fare better
than he would out here
dont put yourself out
on my acount for any
time will do= for the minature
iff you hear from Albert
let me know when he
leaves Augusta
the nearest rebbel is
at Fairfax Court House
about 15 miles from here
give my love to
all the family +
receive the same
from your unworthy
brother
