Dear Sister
I received yours of
the 19th last night with the minature
and I need not tell you that I was
glad to get it for it looks so natural
that I imagined it the original,
if you remember the last time we
parted in Portland, you can well
imagine my feeling when I looked
at the minature.
I was far from being frightened enough to
jump into the Potomac..so far from
it, that I wished myself on the banks
of the Penobscot for a while, just
long enough to spend Thanksgiving day
with you. our Thanksgiving comes next
thursday. it will be a holy day with us
I received a letter from Mag and one
from Nellie Gibbs last week they were
all well. I have not heard from
home or from All for more than
two weeks. I wrote to them all last
Sunday.
the weather is very cold and
stormy here now, but it has been
very fine for some time past, last
sunday it snowed quite fast for about
an hour.. there is no talk of moving
from here.. I suppose we will go into
winter quarters before long.
there is no news to write. I sent you
the morning paper, there is no news going
iff thare was I would send you the paper
regular. it is almost time for dress
parade and I must close.
give my love to John and kiss
the children for their Uncle
George
write soon
