Dear Sister
I now seatings of to
write you a few lines to let you know that I am
still living I received a letter from you
some time since while on the march and I did
not have time to answer it before we are
now camped on the banks of a beautiful stream called Cedar Run waiting for the railroad to be compleeted to Warrenton Junction 2 ½ miles
from here- the rebels destroyed the bridges
on this road as far as the Rappahannock-
the cars have this moment crossed the new bridge
over Cedar Run and we may possibly move by
tomorrow on as far as Fredericksburg or the Rappahannock
+ companies of the 1
st Maine Cavalry is connected
with Genl Abercrombies Brigade their camp is about
a mile from here I saw Warren Whitney last
week he is 2d major-Albert is with the other
5 companies at Harpers Ferry-we will form a
junction with them at Fredricksburgh-I
saw Albert at Alexandria three weeks ago- he
has the praise of being the best rider in in the Regt
my health is good and I am contented
this is a general time of good health in this part
of the Army every man in good spirits
and anxious to get a chance to wipe secession
from our happy land of canon-the hardest is
yet to come Yorktown + Corinth will be the
Waterloo’s of this war – but McClellan is our
man and good men in a good cause can, and will, do
great things, we have great confidence in McClellan
Today is rainy we have had fine weather for the past
[faded] [ ? ] are
[ ? ] work not hard
[faded] no more at present write as often
as convenient give my respects to all
and receive the same from yours
