Friend Wily,
I am getting anxious to hear from Kalamorso and thought I would write a few lines to you. I hope you are all enjoying good health. I arrived her at the heat of War, safe and well. I am noe a good ways from home, but the many kind friends of Kalamorso are in my mind. Every day the corn you gave me Wily is all used, but not by me. The boys all helped me and we enjoyed ourselves in washing and popping and eating it. The little bag which your sister made for the corn, I now use to put coffee in and is very handy. Wily, I can not write you much news at this time and will therefore close my letter.
Be a good boy and be kind to your Father and Mother. You must tell Eddy the same for me. You must both use your parents kindly while they live, for when they are dead, you will have no chance and will then be very sorry like I have been since I lost my dear Father and Mother. I done a great many thing while they lived which were wrong, and of which I am now very sorry, but they are going forever and it is to late. Do not forget this and honor your parents while you and they live. I must end. Please give my kind regards to your Father, Mother and Sister. I am friends, Wily and Eddy. Every your best wishes. J. Please give my best regards to Miss Tallor. Tell her I would enjoy her nice beef steak very much if I had it here, or stewed potatoes which she used to have.
