Edwards Dear Sir your Prompt answer to my letter certainly entitled you to as prompt an answer in return, but I concluded to delay until our Descriptive Lists got here my own and Smiths got here only two or three days ago but Wagners has failed to make its appearance yet. I made inquiry and was informed that Appeciation was made fore the Descriptive Lists for all the men but as yet not one half have been supplied Wagner feels some what Anxious about his as he cannot draw any clothing until he has it night before last there was a funeral from the Hospital, N. Smith was one of the Pall Bearers and since that time he has been missing I suppose he has gone to Michigan, I guess all right –  our Surgeon gives but few Furloughs and none to Michi- ganders he is down upon us Permit me to return my Heartfelt thanks for your kind Appreciation of my feable efforts to uphold the flag we so much Rivere. Although a forigner would to God every native could fell the same devotion for the Great and Liberal Princepals governing the land of their nativity that I feel for the land of my adoption and I shall be proud to follow her flag wherever and whatever her fortune Be. It was a sad picture you paint of our company but it was a glorious victory- I believe the rebellion will will resume its [  ?  ] at the willing honds of the boys at the Potomac and I only hope to be in at the Death- Right glad am I to know that it was our Capt. who saved and carryed from that fatal field that sacred trust confided to us by the people of Detroit- But Wagner thinks it will be a long time before he can take the field in Defense of the flag which he was so proud of my foot still gives me Consider- able pain which causes me to be rather nervous so that I can not sit up long enough to write with you must excuse the pincel I sent you a paper if there is any particular paper you want let know and I will sent it to you remember us to the the boys of F and especially Stoddard Ross and green and Believe me as ever yours to obey James D.
