Dear Bro. Add
I just received
your letter and it relieved
my mind a good deal for
I had not heard from
you for so long a time
that I thought something
had happened to you.
I have been well since I
wrote to you last and I
this will find you the
same. There has very little
transpired since I wrote
you last We have got as
far as Warrenston on our
advance to Richmond
and I guess we will stay
here for a few days untill
things are settled for
of course it will need
some little time to get
things straightened up
after the change that has
taken place Burnsides
seems to be a very popular
man here in the army
and I guess the men are
as well pleased with him
as they would be with any
that they could get to fill
McClellan’s place
Four days ago the army
moved across the Rappahan
oc and took up a position
about two miles from
the river but it was done
through misstake so we
moved back to our old
position on this side.
The real order was for
one Brigade to cross and
support Pleasenton
but they got it mixed up
and made a perfect balk of
the whole thing.
Add in reference to that Lieutenancy you spoke
about I am very
[ ? ]
to think of any such thing
but if be any good luck I
I would take it
[ ? ]
could help you and Mathew
a good deal I don’t think
in fact I know I am not
capable of it to hold it
fit for any such thing
but there are a good many
in the same fix now
in the army. I am very
shur that I could get a good
word from our Lieutenant and captain who is acting
Major and perhaps I can
from our Colonel. I could
try if nothing more.
I have got to go on picket
at five and it is now after four
so I must close this short
letter I will write again soon
Pleas excuse this sheet of paper
it was the best I could get
Good Bye ED
