Dear Cousin I now take my pen in
hand to inform you that I am well
I received your kind letter of the 25
th
and Glad was I to hear from N. H.
after so long a time. On the 29 of last
month we commenced our fall Camp-
aighn on the morning of 29 our Division
of the 9
th Corps and a large body of Cavilry
started towards Reams Station in the after
noon about 5 oclock heavy cannonading
and muskery could be heard in that
direction it lasted about an hour
The next day the rest of the 9 Corps and
the 1
st and 2d Division of our Corps
Advanced out in front of the
[ ? ]
house they found the rebes pickets about
¼ of a mile from ours they drove them
into there works and the 2d Division
of our Corps charged the Rebels
Works and took them and a fort
and 3 pieces of Cannon and A large
amount of Prisoners the Rebels had
but a small force behind there Works
our forces Advanced on and I beleave
they are about 2 miles from the
South Side road The next day the
2d Corps went to our left and
Some of the 10 Corps but we have
not heard eney thing from them yet it
has rained verry hard hear the last
3 days I suppose this stops us from
advanceing eney further for the preas
ant we have not been engaged yet
and I hope we will not we was
building a Fort yesterday I think
we will hold what we have got and
Fortefy till we get the line seecure
and then Advance further toward
the left I think we will get
Petersburgh after a while.
The war looks now as though
it would end this fall shure
if the Northern States give Lincon
as large a majority as the Soldiers
will Lincon will be our next
President and the war will close with
out a doubt. how is dose N.H. stand
for Lincon or Mc The last letter
I had from home they was all
well our town had filled her
Quota which was 19 men by vol
there will be no draft there
they raised 47 Hundred dollars to
pay there vol. We are receiving
reinforcements evry day there is
from 6 to 8 trains come up
from city Point evry day loaded
with Soldiers. Well I can not think
of much more news to write this time
The last letter I had from home
Father said he intended to go East
this Fall and Nathan was agoing
to California this month
I will send you my Picture as
soon as I can get it taken
I can not think of eney
think else to write that would interrest
you Give my best Respects to
all Enquiring Friends and
