My Own Darling Wife.
To day I have
been building me a bunk and I
have built it so wide the boys
have been joking me about it.
they say it is for two and you
are coming down here. “do you see
it.” I confess I cannot hardly yet.
I am Officer of the days for five
days. good thing. nothing to do. only
attend “Guard mounting” and see that
the camp is policed in the morning
and at night receive and give
to the “Guards” the Countersign. and
see that lights are out at “taps”. I
will send you the “Countersign” for
to night. It will pass you through
the lines of any army in the U.S.
Service.
to-night.
I shall look for a loved word
from you by this eves mail
“Wedding Words”
“A jewel for my lady’s ear.
A jewel for her finger fine.
A diamond for her bosem dear.
Her bosem that is mine.
“Dear glances for my lady’s eyes.
Dear looks around her form to time.
Dear kisses for the lips I prize.
Her dear lips. that are mine
“Dear breathings to her soft and low
Of how my lot she’s made divine
Dear Silences. my love that show
For her whose love is mine.
“Dear cures lest clouds should shade his way
That gladness only on her shine
That she be happy as the May.
Whose [ ? ] is one with mine
“Dear wishes hovering round her life
And [ ? ] thoughts and dreames divine
To feel with perfect “Joy” the wife
Whose happiness is mine.”
Dont think the above is original.
it is only appropriate.
I wrote Louise

are going to school at G.R. on the
East Side. Mary writes Fields. she
was up to see Mother and she was
quite lonesome. Mary is much
improved in mind since her
last to me and speaks of her
late sorrow. not in so many words-
but in meaning- as a thing of
the long ago. and appears to
wonder why she ever felt
as she did. and seemingly
wishes to know what people
thought of her grief. Perhaps
I did not read as meant, but
yet such is the history of our
race.
Should you go out to your
Grandfathers if you wish me to write
you there let me know about
what time you are going and
then when you leave, a few
days before, Love to all
Love and several kisses for my wife.
Ever your loving husband
