Dear Mary and the Little One
If I could
not be with you I’ll do
the next best thing =write.
We could not get the 31
Boxes shipped Thursday. yester-
day. And I thought I would
stay until they were closed
out. We have about thirty of
the old lot left yet. all in
good order. did not try
to sell much less than $1.25
yesterday sold about 20 on the
market.
I dont know as I shall
come direct home when I
get done. I saw on Friday
some parties from between
here and Chicago who are
In the Apple trade and without
intimating that I was either
directly or indirectly interested
found out that Apples could
be got in large quantities in
their vicinity at $2.372 1/2 per barrel
the Freight is .29cts more to this
place. Van Buren has been trying
to contract at $3.25 which leaves
a margin of over .50cts per
barrel and from the fact that
winter apples have hardly begun
to take the place of fall fruit
it must be expected that the
market will improve. I
believe I can make some
money on apples, and feel
considerably like trying it
on at least looking into it.
If you are not getting
too anxious for me to come
home. I think you had better
send me by express if no
other way occurs- a change
of under clothes by Tuesdays
train. send a valise if there
is one. I may be ready to come
by the time I get them. You
can tell John or not about
the apples. nothing may come
of it-or something-.
You must not get too lone=
some. and kiss little one for
me. I’ll pa you when I
come.
Yours Ever
