My Mary.
My Own Darling Wife.
As I
sit alone in my “Palace” to night
looking at a familiar handwriting
and looking back to the pleasant
past and forward to the dim
and shadowy future, I wonder,
is this one of those alluring day
dreams that lead and beckens
us forward only to make keener
the pang of pleasures lost.
I know
your love for me is real your
devotion such as few men can
claim from the heart of woman.
The future looks very bright to
me now far more so than I
had ever dared hope. “Would fifteen
days pay.” Yes, an hour would.
Yours
of the 19th I received to night, I have
written several times to Middlesex
and send you money there
We march
at seven in the morning.
Good Bye
Love and a Kiss.
