My dear Mary,
I will try to write a
little to you this evening.
I have not been very well the last
week. have had some kind of swelling
in my face. we thought it was the
erysepelas but it is geting better.
Celia has not been to school the
last week for she has not felt very well
and is not well to night. I dont
know as she will be able to go to
morrow but hope she will.
I have received your letter with the
order for money and am more then
thankful for it. I have thought that
I should have some money by and by
so that I should not be drawing quite
so hard on Gardner, but I have been
informed that there is no pension for
me, because farriers are not entitled to any
I tell you it is hard, but if it is laws
I shall have to submit, but I never can
think that it is right, if the bounty of
soldiers is raised I may get two hundred
more from government, but I am afraid
that there is not as much as that for me
I think it is very strange that you
do not get my letters, I wrote to you
christmas day and once since, perhaps
you have got them before now, I will hope
so at least.
Uncle Leonard is failing very fast, proberly
he will not live but a very few days.
Served you right, that you did not get
a christmas present, if you had come
home you might have had one, but I
guess it will keep untill you come if
you will be a good girl and write often,
Love to yourself and Gardner
from your mother
