December 25th 1863
Dear Gardner
My Own Darling Husband.
Christmas has
come again and with silent language of the
pen is the only way I greet the loved one, May
another Christmas find us together once more never
again to be parted in life.
Yours of the 20
th I received to night and yours
of the 17
th last night for which please accept at
least a dozen kisses.
You wish that I may have a sleigh ride for
Christmas, but I did not and more than all
that I did not want one, what pleasure would
there be in sleigh riding with the dearest one
earth so many miles away? None! to me. I would
much rather be alone. with only my thoughts
I am alone to night. it is past ten oclock and
the folks have all gone to bed but myself.
Cousin Rhoda Stowell was here to day. I suppose
she is intending to be married soon. She is going to
marry a man by the name of Rand he is a
widower. his first wife died last winter.
Dec 26th
Leonard is going to Middlesex this morning
and I can send my letter by him.
It is a beautiful morning but it is
cold enough.
Leonard is waiting for this so I cannot
write more now but will write again
to morrow.
Accept this with love and kisses from
your loving wife.
