My own Dear Gardner,
I recieved a
letter and three papers from you this
afternoon. I think that picture of the
grand review of the troops is beautiful
I would have given a great deal to
have seen it. You say that December does
not seem like December. and it does not
here either there is not a bit of snow on
the ground and it is quite warm, considering
how late in the year it is. If your Company
disbands, you must come home any way
for I want to see you so bad. If you dont
believe it come and see. it seems sometimes
as if I could almost fly. Anna is over
here this evening and she is working on my
kiss me quick for me. if you dont know
what that is I can tell you, it is a
kind of hood to wear on my
head, it is the same colors of
my
shall shawl. I got me a new
dress to day and will send you a piece
of it I don’t want you to think is is very
homely. I sent you my picture in my last
letter. if you do not get it please let me
know. Anna says to ask you for her if she
had not ought to be ashamed of herself
because she has not combed her head to-
day. I suppose you remember Billy Write that
was in Doctor C – s office. he died yester-
day. he has the brain fever. I met Bent Green
this afternoon when I was going down street.
I guess he had just come home. My lips got
almost well once but they feel real sore again
to night I shall have to close for this time
for I have got a long history lesson to
get to night Good night and happy
dreams of me.
Believe me ever Yours,
Mary J. Baxter
